Problems That King John’s Castle Faced
King John’s Castle is Limerick’s most iconic landmark. So, they wanted to give their visitors a smooth and engaging experience.

Point of Sale System for WooCommerce
For customer satisfaction and a better experience, it was important for King John’s Castle to improve their operations.
So, Webkul provided them with the WooCommerce POS plugin to highlight their problem.
WooCommerce Point of Sale System is a valuable plugin for store owners, offering seamless management of both online and physical stores.
It allows store agents to efficiently handle sales and customer interactions at physical outlets, with the flexibility to work online and offline.
This module significantly boosts daily sales by effectively managing online and physical stores.
WooCommerce POS Customizations
There were many customizations that King John’s Castle made in the WooCommerce POS plugin. These are as follows:
Cash & Card Payment Customization
King John’s Castle’s requirements were as follows:
- On the checkout page of the POS, they wanted to apply €10.00, €20.00, and €50.00 (Rendered amount) as these are the most common amounts tendered at all times.
- If the amount goes above €10.00 only then switch to €20.00, €50.00, and €100.00.
- Additionally, They also wanted the system to print the invoice as soon as the payment is successful in cash payment.
- They wanted the number pad removed for Card Payment and the full amount automatically inputted if card payments were selected.
- If they switch to CASH the number pad is back and they have to enter an amount as usual.
Our Development team did all of these customizations seamlessly.
Barcode Scanner Customization
We customized the WooCommerce POS plugin to scan barcodes without having to click on the barcode button.
We also customized the POS so that it should be able to scan the product with the barcode reader and it should appear in the checkout.
Order Receipt Customization
Our development team also customized order receipt to show the time and date of the transaction. We also replaced “tax” with “VAT” and “other payment” with “credit card”.
We also changed “Confirm Payment & Generate Invoice” to “Confirm Payment and Print Receipt”.
On the checkout page, We moved the “Confirm Payment & Generate Invoice” button to the bottom right.
And added the amount tendered and changed to the right top beside payable.
We also added a feature, when a card payment is chosen, the amount is automatically entered into the tendered box.
We allowed the admin to add more categories (Outlet) to the top bar on the POS home page.
It is a dynamic feature so you can add as many as you wish and decide which categories are displayed or not including the “All” tab.
We allowed the admin to set the order of the categories from first to last in a different order across the top other than alphabetical.
Stripe Terminal Customization
Webkul also provided a cancel button and resync the terminal, we also integrated Stripe API into their POS plugin.
We customized the refund API to refund the amount to the customers who have paid on the Stripe terminal. This is only for the orders paid by the Stripe terminal.
This also works for exchanged items paid by Stripe terminal whereby there is a refund due. Exchange is currently part of our refund plugin.
We customized the Stripe POS terminal plugin so that it’ll be able to have 2 or more Stripe terminals linked to the same Stripe account (or a different Stripe account).
This may be done with outlets but each different outlet may be connected to the same Stripe account or different Stripe accounts.
So there has to be an ability to choose which terminal on a particular Stripe account connects to which outlet.
As one Stripe account may have 3 terminals connected to it – so you have to be able to choose the terminal linked to the outlet from the Stripe account.
Color Customization
Our development team also customized King John’s Castle WooCommerce POS plugin according to their brand identity.
We changed some colors of the module, like we changed orange color like the “Apply coupon”, and the “All” button to gold, the “Hold Cart” button to wine red, and the “Change” amount to red.
Cart Display Customization
King John’s Castle adjusted the layout of how to view and change the quantity in the till.
And un-set items will default to the normal increase in qty when pressed multiple times.
They need to be able to set in the outlet admin any items to appear more than once in the till when pressed multiple times (both priced or 0.00 priced items). Webkul successfully customized that.
0.00 priced items should show no quantity unless more than 1 item quantity is chosen. They wanted the same for the Kitchen receipts.
€0.00 priced items should also not show units and should appear again on the till if pressed.
King John Castle wanted to show the product image on the cart section so, our team customized that accordingly.
They had to add a scroll in the cart so that the last added product would be visible.
Also, the cart should scroll up when added more products. Webkul did this customization seamlessly.
Adding New Features to POS Plugin
King John’s Castle wanted to add new functions to their POS plugin which our development team provided to their POS plugin. These functions are as follows:
- They wanted to make a checkout and print button at the top of the list to select or unselect all the items for checkout or printing.
- We can also select or unselect items by clicking on individual items and the selected item will be highlighted with green.
- Item checked out or paid for will no longer appear on the list.
- The “ADD” button was replaced with “Checkout”.
Credit Option Customization
King John’s Castle needed to add a credit tab on the payment screen which helps in the following ways:
- This credit tab will allow purchases without payment.
- This credit tab will allow the cashier to choose the customer for this credit transaction and will not affect the saved chosen customer for the POS.
- Admin can turn this feature on or off in the admin panel.
- A Credit Payment Gateway and a credit order status will need to be set up in WooCommerce.
- This needs to be compatible with Myworkssync / similar plugin.
- Also, Credit orders should appear in the Cashier Drawer Account summary under Payment Mode.
We were able to fulfill all their wishes accordingly.
Category Customization
One more customization that we made in POS Plugin was, that we allowed the admin to add more categories to the top bar on the POS home page.
It is a dynamic feature so you can add as many categories as you wish and decide which categories are displayed or not including the “All” tab.
We allowed the admin to set the order of the categories from first to last in a different order across the top other than alphabetical.
Cashier Catagory Customization
Our team provided King John’s Castle with a print button in their WooCommerce POS plugin in the drawer account summary.
The data is to be printed out on the thermal printer’s size. Paper width measures 79.5 mm, with a maximum roll diameter of 83 mm.
We also added the Outlet Logo to the Print Drawer Receipt on the POS.
We removed the “Today’s Cash” page and “Sale History” page from the Cashier page because they only wanted to have the “Close Counter Tab”.
Category and Sub-Category Customization
We customized the category and sub-categories of King John’s Castle POS module as follows according to their needs:
- The top Parent Category will remain across the top bar.
- Sub-categories will be displayed with the product image.
- When you click on the subcategory it displays only products and categories within that subcategory.
- We Customized the module to allow them to make as many sub-categories as Woocommerce allows.
- We also created a previous menu button which is also the same size as the product button.
- The previous menu button will always appear as the first item. When you click on it, it brings you back to the parent category.
- Sub-category items should appear slightly indented on the till to show they are below their parent category.
Switch User Customization
King John’s Castle wanted to have switch user functionality in their POS module so that if someone wanted to use the same POS, they could switch accounts.
We customized their POS and added this feature which is present on the top of the module. They just have to click on their name to switch accounts.
The admin can create the user in the backend by going to User and clicking on Add new.
